Notes - The Pioneer [grayshouse3.FTW] Jacob Polsgrove (also spelled Palsgrove) was born 1748, confirmed 1766 at Faulkner Swamp Reformed Church, named in his father's will in 1757, a laborer by trade, on the tax lists of Philadelphia Co., Pa., 1779, 1780, 1781 and 1782. Served in thhe Revolutionary War, class 3 of Capt. Benjamin Markley's Company, Pennsylvania Militia, in 1781. Appears as Jacob Polsgrove with 5 other white souls in the 1784 census of Hampshire Co., Va. He last appears in the 1800 census of Scott Co., Ky., probably reaching Pendleton Co., Ky before 1810. He had three sons, Henry b. 1784, Jacob b. 1785 and George b. 1792. He also had three daughters, Margaret, Catherine and Mary. The daughters and first born son, Henry, were all born in Pennsylvania. Kentucky was originally a part of the western lands of Virginia. The oldest state west of the Appalachian Highlands, it has its first permanent settlement in 1775 - about a year before Daniel Boone brought his wife and teenage daughter to ln the town that was named after him, Boonesbourgh (now Boonesboro). During the next 15 years the population of the area grew to more than 73,000. In 1792, with the permission of Virginia, Kentucky was admitted to the Union as the 15th state.
